On Holidays….

Hello Dear Readers,

The Jazart Design Studio blog will be on hold until I return from my travels in June.

In the meantime follow my special travel blog at

Trending: April Issue of INSIDE OUT

The new March-April issue of INSIDE OUT is packed with inspiration and trend spotting! I love the interview with owner of Publisher Textiles, Mark Cawood and his unique wallpaper designs creating optical illusions and inspired by patterns found naturally in his everyday surroundings. He used eco-friendly, hand-mixed dyes. There are also some interesting textile and surface pattern trends highlighted including bold patterns applied to ordinary furniture, DIY Dip dye throw pillows, statement tablecloths and metallic bronze shine. Check it out!

Reflection: Happy Valentine’s Day

Valentine’s Day is a funny holiday and there are always mixed feelings about whether it should be one or not. Of course, we don’t need a specific day every year to acknowledge the ones we love, because we should tell them we love them everyday. However, Valentine’s Day still provides a nice  excuse to be extra thoughtful, loving and creative! It’s an excuse to go out to a fancy restaurant , organise a special movie night in, buy that something your partner has been wanting for ages, say “Will you be my Valentine?”, receive a cute plush toy even if your over the age of ten, make a card for someone, use excessive amounts of red & pink, dress up in something sexy and say as many mushy lovey-dovey  phrases as you like! So what will you be doing this Valentines Day and who will you be spending it with?

Happy Valentine’s Day!

“Love doesn’t make the world go round. Love is

what makes the ride worthwhile.” – Franklin Jones

“Being deeply loved by someone gives you strength, while loving

someone deeply gives you courage.” – Lao Tzu

“Let us always meet each other with smile,

for the smile is the beginning of love.” – Mother Teresa

Inspiration: Red & Pink

With Valentine’s Day nearing I can’t help but share with you some inspiration taken from my favourite holiday colour palette. Valentine’s Day has the signature palette of Red, Pink and White, such a lovely combination! Bright pinks and reds, are said to stimulate energy and can increase the blood pressure, respiration, heartbeat, and pulse rate. They also encourage action, friendliness and confidence. Perfect for getting the courage up on Valentines Day to ask that special someone out on a date!

Decoration: Wardrobe Door Revamp #3

At home I have three sliding doors that run from the floor to the ceiling, that hide my wardrobe in my room. They initially started as an off-white colour, but being me, that was too boring! So in the next few posts I will be sharing with you the three ways that I decorated my wardrobe doors. The techniques and styling ideas are easily applied to your own sliding wardrobe doors, walls or any flat surface that may need some jazzing up!

Wardrobe Revamp #3: Memory Montage

Displaying photographs around your personal space is important. It reminds you of the people you love, fun times and keeps you thinking happy thoughts! I display my photographs in many different ways around my home, but here is one example of a large display on my wardrobe door. I first formatted my digital photos into a simple A3 grid on the computer (Download the template on the ‘Downlaods’ Page), printed them out in colour and laminated them. I then placed the nine posters side by side on my door, creating a visual collage. You can create a photo collage too by simply printing your favourite photos at the nearest print centre and then using blue tack, place them where you wish on a wall or door.

  • Printed Photographs in either single or collage form.
  • Blue Tack or Double-Sided Tape

Inspiration: Draw!Pilgrim

Today’s inspiration is the retro stationery designer Pilgrim Lee and her totally rad brand Draw!Pilgrim. The talented lady has an amazing blog and website set-up at www.drawpilgrim.com which includes a tour of her funky home, regular feature posts and shop. Below are some of her cute designs inspired by the 1960′s and 1970′s. Loving that colour blocking!

Inspiration: Kaleidoscope of Fashion

For all your fashion inspiration and wardrobe style advice, I bring you an inspiring blog called Kaleidoscope of Fashion. The author, Angie Zhang, surprisingly a commerce student at Melbourne University, uses her blog as a creative outlet to review the latest fashion runway trends, fashion magazines and share her own creative fashion outfits!

Wardrobe Door Revamp #2: DIY Creative Wallpaper

I’m sure you will love this one! If your sick of your boring walls and want to add some creativity to the room, you can transform them in just an afternoon with this tutorial. The papers and colours I chose were completely my personal choice, but you can choose any papers you like for this one, for a more subtle appearance try heavily textured card in neutral tones such as white, cream, brown and grey. This particular DIY tutorial may also work well in a child’s bedroom using cute character papers or storybook pages.

  • Scrap booking Papers in the colours and patterns of your choosing. It may be helpful to buy a coordinating pad of papers, then you wont have to worry about making sure they match with each other.
  • Craft Glue PVA or Double-sided Tape

Reflection: Sorrento Mini Break

Sometimes you just need a little break… My boyfriend and I enjoy taking day trips and weekend down to Mornington Peninsula’s, Sorrento, in fact we are down there today! They have lovely beaches, parks and great food too! Here are some happy snaps I took with my new Nikon D1300 SLR Camera from the last time we visited this buzzing coastal town. I hope everyone has had a wonderful, relaxing Australia Day weekend!

Happy Australia Day!

I hope everyone has an enjoyable Australia Day with friends and family!
